Cardellina canadensis

Canada Warbler

Warblers / Reinitas
The Canada Warbler (Cardellina canadensis) is part of a suite of steeply declining migratory landbirds that winter in the tropical Andes of northern South America. The migration routes and stopover use of the species remain largely unknown but given the species’ preference for forested habitats at elevations between 1000 and 2250 m in the Andes, the species likely seeks similar montane habitats while on migration. Surveys across Colombia, Panama and Costa Rica support this prediction, with a likely fall stopover occurring along the Caribbean slope of the Central Cordillera in Costa Rica and on both the Caribbean and Pacific slope of the Serranía de Talamanca in Costa Rica and Panama.
